Peer Advocacy

Often in schools there is a discrepancy between what the administration and teachers think is happening and what students are experiencing. We at Find the Light believe that nobody knows what schools need to improve on better than the students themselves. Additionally, we have found that often students are reluctant to bring their concerns to faculty, especially if those concerns are of a sensitive nature. We have developed a program that empowers students to advocate for themselves and their classmates, giving kids someone their own age that can listen and determine what actions should be taken. This program educates students on their rights and responsibilities and the process of addressing problems which arise. We teach kids how to evaluate a situation, determine what adults to inform, how to build their case, and even what steps to take if they feel the situation was not resolved. Our Student Advocacy Program builds upon leadership skills learned in school and helps prepare students to advocate for themselves and others when they leave school and become successful adults.
